This guide to the iconic River dee is packed with useful tips, paddling routes and riverbank tales. It’s the perfect purchase for any river paddler, whether that’s you or someone you know.
The book was started by Jonathan Kitching, founder of Aboyne Canoe Club and a long-time long-time River Advisor to the Dee. Jonathan was a passionate advocate for all things to do with the river Dee and always enthusiastic about getting people out paddling and active in the outdoors. Jonathan, who was known as JK, lost his long battle with myeloma in 2023, and a team of his friends worked to finish the book and get it into circulation - the first full guide to the Scottish River Dee.
The book is written principally for any river paddler who wants to know more about the river, its twists and turns, rapids, heights and delights, old crossing points – and many a tale too. That said, it’s also a useful guide for anybody travelling close to the river by foot or bike, fishing its pools, cycling the Deeside Way, or picnicking and swimming at one of the many beauty spots.
The cost of producing the book has been fully covered by sponsorship, so every penny of proceeds will directly benefit the ANCHOR Unit, where JK himself received care and treatment through the years.
